n-gage: overview The n-gage and Elastic Minds sites investigate school-based learning in the 21st Century. For the purposes of this investigation the "21st Century" is used as an euphemism to mean the bridge between what we know about learning from past centuries through empirical research and theories and what is emerging in the arts, sciences, and ecology in this “new” (albeit eight years old) global/local and technological world.
From investigations into various education, ecology, art, and science theories and practices I put forward a "playful" model for designing relational learning environments. In this instance, I situate these theories and practices in what I am currently involved in which is the design and trialing of curriculum, in particular Learning Technologies component. The aim is that I begin to identify and map out the elements (attitudes, learning principles, signs, symbols, objects, skills) required to design relational learning environments. I do this in two ways: through Dimensions of Learning (DoL) and through Helen Timperley's XXXX. This is done to identify and test design grammars that apply to all learners. These design grammars can then be adjusted to suit other situated learning environments.
Paradigm shift in how education bodies can understand and practice:
materials development and trialling (learning programs, policy, assessment tasks, reporting and monitoring tools);
professional learning.
n-gage focus is on the practice of designing relational learning environments.
Elastic Minds focus is on the theories that underpin relational learning environments. ||
